Company Business Model
Brambles’s main revenue stream is the provision of pooling equipment to customers for a fee. Pooling is a “share and reuse” model based on the principle of the circular economy where pallets, containers, crates and other transportation equipment are shared and reused within a network of producers, retailers, transporters and service centres.
Operated under the CHEP brand name, Brambles’s pooling equipment include pallets, Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) also known as Crates, Bins and Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) as depicted in Exhibit 1.
Several fees are charged to customers including issue, transfer, transport and daily hire. The predominant billing structure for these fees is either a bundled upfront fee upon issue of pooling equipment to customers, or a daily hire fee based on the number of days the pooling equipment is used in the field by a customer. Other fees, such as transport and transfer fees, are billed when the activity occurs.
